Steven R. Gray
Position: Member
Mr. Gray joined the firm in 1984 and heads the
firm's environmental section. He received a degree in economics from
the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a Juris Doctor
from Seton Hall University with a course of study geared toward land
use and environmental law.
He is an active member of the American Bar Association's Superfund and
Hazardous Waste Committee on which he was appointed and served as
a vice chair for three years. He is a member of the Steering Committee
of the New York Metropolitan Area Environmental Network and, in this
capacity, has sponsored numerous environmental programs for the American
Bar Association and joint programs in conjunction with the New Jersey
State Bar Association of which he is also a member.
He represents clients with respect to environmental liability and compliance
obligations in Federal and State Courts and in administrative forums.
He has successfully prosecuted claims for environmental insurance coverage
and served as special environmental counsel to Trustees in bankruptcy.
He has considerable experience in wetlands matters and, on behalf of
the firm's clients, has obtained approvals for some of the largest commercial
development projects involving wetlands authorized by Federal and State
regulatory agencies.
Prior to joining the firm, he served as a Deputy Attorney General for
nine years, representing the Hackensack Meadowlands Development Commission
and the Department of Environmental Protection in Federal and State
trial and appellate courts. He also served for two years as counsel
to the Environmental Committees of the New Jersey Legislature.
